The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, or Skyrim, is a Action RPG made by Bethesda Softworks. Announced December 11, 2010, Skyrim is the next chapter in the popular Elder Scrolls series. Set two hundred years after the events of Oblivion, the game takes place in Skyrim, a land full of unrest after the assassination of its king. The player takes control of the last living Dovahkiin, and attempts to fend off Alduin, an evil dragon king who has arisen to destroy Skyrim.
Skyrim will feature Bethesda's new Creation Engine which allows a more realistic feel, adding features such as a dynamic lighting system, improved weather effects, and enhanced character models. The Radiant AI system, which first appeared in Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, returns improved. Villagers will react to the player's actions, and will respond accordingly.
The player will be able play one of ten selectable character classes.
The player will be able to to control the each of the character's hands seperately by using the two triggers. Either hand can wield a sword, shield, or spell, and switch weapons on the fly. Swords and shields will move with a realistic weight, and players can no longer spam spells while back-pedaling. Bows require both hands to operate, and require a longer draw time compared to Oblivion, but does more damage. Different weapons have thier own niches. For example, Axes cuts the enemies and causes prolonged bleeding damage, while maces negate the enemies armor value.
Being a Dovahkiin, or a Dragonborn, the character is able to use the ability Dragon shouts, an arcane art that gives the character special abilities, such as being able to breathe fire, control time, and teleportation. Everytime the player kills a dragon, its soul will be absorbed, and the player will recieve new Shouts.
Dragon fights will act as the "boss fights" in Skyrim, that appear randomly throughout the game. The game will keep track of how long since a dragon fight has occured, and spawns dragons accordingly.
Skills are seperated into 18 different classes, each with its own evolution tree. As the character progresses through the levels in the tree, they'll recieve new techniques as well.
Unlike Oblivion, Skyrim will feature a level scaling system similar to Fallout 3 where enemies became progressively difficult as the character levels up.
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is set in the province of Skyrim, located north of Cyrodil in northern Tamriel. It has snowy climate and is the home of Nords.
