I have a HD PVR, but I'm tired of having to cut every 30-40min.

Is there any good codec for on-the-run compressing?

I want to use my capture card, and compress it while recording, so I can record for atleast 7-8 hours on 500GB. The HD PVR does it, but I don't know the settings.

Aren't the H264 formats already as compressing as you can get without killing your processor? Seems like it'd be easier to buy a cheap external HDD to record long amounts.

I don't like external HDD's. H264 could be the perfect codec here, but the settings are scaring me. So many things I don't know what is. Guess I'll do some research and do some testing.

You want to record 7-8 hours straight without hitting stop? Holy shit. We record 20 mins tops. I've lost many videos to capture programs crashing while recording videos longer than 30 mins. I've also found that hitting stop after the end of a section makes it much easier to organize and edit the video files later.

I want to use my old capture card, and record for a long time without stoping, and starting the record. DScaler split the videos into 4GB files, just as I'm used to with PC recording with fraps.

I just hope I'll find good H264 settings, so I can record a while, without the HDD getting full. I should be able to do that when I start using MSi recorder instead of fraps (If it's good enough, sceptical.)

When I edit, I cut up the video so I have every mission or whatever for itself, seperated by sequenses (empty space in son vegas).
