Quote from the article:
"Microsoft has announced that as of November 1, 2010, the price for Xbox Live Gold will go up in Canada, the US, United Kingdom and Mexico. The annual fee will go up by $10 in the United States, with one and three month subscriptions also going up in price."

Not wishing to start a flame war between the PS3 and Xbox 360 over this but, what do you guys think about it? I for one will continue to pay for it and I'm sure many others will. Frequent PS3 players often laugh at us for having to pay this money for the online service, but I do feel that it is worth the money, even with this price increase.

Effin' Bobby Kotick....

60% of Gamers on Live play a majority their time on COD/MW2.  I bet that mofo made a threat to take all their business to PS.

Do not get it mistaken ppl, That $10 is Bobby's money.

Man, this is such bullshit. Honestly, you would think they would make enough money with all the equipment and other products they sell, but apparently not.

I just dont understand why microsoft is doing this you would think that they would lower the price so they could get more people to buy an xbox and not make the price go up.This will turn people away from buying an xbox in my mind because people dont want to pay that much if they could just get a ps3 at same price and not pay for live and still get most of the same quality. But i will most likely pay for this because reach is coming out, but this really gets on my nerves

I think that Microsoft does make enough money off of every thing they have out, games, consloles, hardware accesories, etc. All though
PS3 is free to play on line I don't think it's worth the problems is has, and every one will still pay for live even tho the price is going up.

The only problem with that article is how it brags about all the new services added to xbox live. In reality most of those services suck (i.e avatars), really the only one that would be worth a $10 price increase is party mode. That being said paying an additional $10 isn't that big a deal, and honestly if $10 is that important you shouldnt own an xbox in the first place. Also I just wanted to say that most of the people commenting on IGN are idiots. After re-reading it I saw that the price for a yearly subscription in Canada will stay the same, awesome.

All I have to say is that this crap is rediculous. Their BS claims of TEN more dollars is crap for just a better sounding voice chat. I am just going to revert to silver then pay $40 to renew my service.

the reason why microsoft increased the price is probably because halo reach / cod black ops are coming out (which will have shit tons of gameplay on XBL) and they will make shit tons of money.

honestly microsoft are dicks for doing this but (not just fanboyism talking here) xbox live is the better online experience and ten bucks isnt enough to turn me away.

I was honestly thinking about getting the 360 for awhile ever since I posted a topic on NGW whether I should buy a 360, but now I'm going to save my money a bit since I don't want to be paying that 70$ a year. I barely even buy 3-4 games a year anyway and don't play it much haha. But of course, this is how Microsoft get's money. XBL.

BTW, you can get yearly cards on amazon and save about I don't know, $20-$30? So go and check it out. I don't 100% sure if it's real though ):

This is pretty annoying, it won't stop me from paying for Xbox Live though because I love playing games competitively online.

Microsoft are just trying to make more money for doing this.

I can see where some of you guys are coming from, but i have to say that a whopping $10 a year isn't going to break the bank for me.  When i got xbox live i thought it was a little on the cheap side to begin with.  Sure PS3 is free, but it is also donkey shit and i hate it.  when i got my ps3 i got borderlands to play with a friend and it was such a pain trying to figure it out playing onlin i almost stopped playing it.

You guys need to keep your pants on. You own an xbox so obviously you're not broke and eat garbage for dinner. I don't think $10 a year or $5 every 3 months (if you're like me) will kill you.

It may not be a lot of money but it's annoying that sony can do it free and microsoft choose not to, and now they hike up the price.

I've had an Xbox 360 live account for a couple of years and a few months ago bought a PS3 to play some of the exclusives and I can say without doubt the ONLY difference between the sony and microsoft's online service is the charge. If sony can offer free online gaming then microsoft are taking everyone for SUCKERS! I I didn't renew my xbox live subscription and now the've hike up the price I don't think I ever will.

I just recently bought a 360 off of my friend for cheap, because he rarely ever played it. I had the intention of buying a Gold membership at first, as soon as a good product would come out (i.e. Halo: Reach, Fable 3), but I am thinking that over once again for this reason. I've had a PS3 almost since it first came out, I don't pay for the service, so I am enjoying all the time I play. Why should I pay 60 dollars a year, or whatever it is now for online service, when I have a respectable connection with my PSN account?

I do not believe I'm going to pay Microsoft for their service, truly.

This is a greasy ass move, but I'll probably stay with xbox.
Not that I'm a fanboy or anything, because I play both 360 and xbox, but xbox servers seem a bit more stable and less laggy. Some of the money made probably goes to better servers.

@rvbfreak you realise what you just said right :p

but I think that it will stop anyone from playing on Xbox Live.

It's just like WoW, people have been paying 15 bucks a month for the last 5 years and I think if Blizzard raised the price it will still be ok because it's the best product on the market.

Except Blizzard won't raise up the price because they doesn't like to screw people over... x.x

so letting people pay 15 dollars a month for 5 years isn't?

But yeah, everyone needs his own little gold mine.

Doesn't really effect me; here's my argument.

You pay £40/$60 for a brand new game on release; not many games get past a week/a month these days with some exceptions being; Call of Duty, Halo, FIFA/Madden/Yearly sports games, World of Warcraft, Starcraft etc. With this in mind you could get a full year of Xbox Live, which without doubt is a great service. Going between having Mafia II which put me down £40/$60 last month which lasted me around 12 hours? For a tiny bit more you get a FULL year of great service...there's no argument on which move I would make if I was down on my subscription.
