Game Informer first reported the details, saying the console is capable of running games at "HD resolutions." Our sources have said the the console is significantly more powerful than the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and that Nintendo's intent is to recapture the hardcore market. Another source said it is capable of 1080p resolutions.

What's most exciting about the Wii successor however is its all-new controller, which industry sources have indicated is not simply an upgraded Wii Remote, and will even feature a built-in HD screen.

Wow, so they've managed to develop a console more powerful than the 360 and PS3, nevermind the fact that they've been out for 6 years.

I'm kinda curious cause isn't Project Netal coming next year? I don't think it's HD so maybe it'll have some more stiff competition from Nintendo now.

@Red_Baron

Project Natal was renamed and released as Kinect

Also, I think GI is bullshitting us here or just trying to build up hype for their magazine. The 3DS has just launched and it's sales aren't exactly the best, so I think Nintendo need to focus on getting people to buy the 3DS before announcing another console.

great another shitty gimmicky piece of crap that makes all the soccer moms go crazy and now wii2fit and every other stupid port of crappy wii games will outsell real games and then true gamers will have this embarrasing stuff labeled with them. This thing is going to be a BIG seller for no good reason other than its name.

I believe and at the same time do not believe that Nintendo can make a console more powerful than the PS3. With all the combined sales from the Wii and DS spinoffs, they probably have the money to pull it off, but Sony actually loses money every time they sell a PS3. That loss is compensated by game sales, which Sony gets a cut whenever a company sells one. This is also primarily the reason why Sony took down the OtherOS support, since people were buying PS3's for Linux or server clusters, and not actually for games.

So, either Nintendo has a mountain of dough to back it up or levels up their game even more. Either way, I guess they can pull a better console than the 360 for a year or so. And I'd shit my pants of they get a better PS3 off too.

Also.

Please tell me this is some sort of cheap attempt at trolling nintendo fanboys or something. Or a drunken stupor you pulled off after downing two beers. Please don't tell me this is your actual, truthful, genuine, completely biased opinion.

Because if it is,

putting it in the gentlemanliest manner possible,

you're an ignorant person.

Personally, I'm betting on a console that is equal in power to the PS3/360, since Nintendo likes to make a profit on their consoles if at all possible and with the hardware for HD graphics being cheap at the moment, it's a logical step.

Am I the only one that noticed the awesome favicon that Nintendo uses on their website?

Anyway, I'm sure this new console is going to have shit for online services, so I doubt that it will compete in the 'hardcore' market.

It'll be interesting to see if Nintendo will continue to cater to their casual audience, or start trying to attract "hardcore" players that put hours on hours into games like Call of Duty.

More "Wii 2" News

"...could have a retail price of anywhere between $350 and $400 based on manufacturing costs...based on a revamped version of AMD's R700 GPU architecture... The system will support 1080p output with the potential for stereoscopic 3D..."

AMD R700 is circa 2008 technology, so Nintendo isn't raising the bar as much as we previously thought.

I think Nintendo will try to connect again to the casual gamer, it has made them impressives amounts of cash (DS and Wii) so why wouldn't they do that. The question for me is: will sony and Microsoft go for the casual crowd as well seeing the market Nintendo had this generation.

3DS is better with online than all their other stuff was, 1 friend code and real-time friend updating, and online isn't actually laggy.

I'll probably end up buying this, since it will be more fun than 360 (don't care about Sony anymore). Oh I'm such a Nintendo guy....

Also, pfro, absolutely incorrect, because that could be compared to thousands of things and completely contradict what you said, but if it's how you feel then good for you :D
