If anyone has seen the gameplay footage of RE: operation racoon city what do you think about this new approach capcom is trying? i'm kinda curius to see this change of pace even though i loved how RE: 4 & 5 were set up.
can you ellaborate what you mean by change of pace please? I haven't been keeping up with the posts on it.
The game is turning away from the survivor horror style and more of an active third person run and gun, far more aggresive. Instead of playing a typical RE character you play as a member of an Umbrella special forces group assigned to eliminate evidence in Racoon City and eliminate targets including one Leon S. Kennedy. Lots of zombie hoards, apparently some kind of hand combat and unique atributes depending on which member of the team you are.
So basically they're making the game to the Movies....not scary, but quite a lot of action.
I think Capcom will still try to keep some elements of horror though, if they know anything it's that RE is good because it's scary, so I'd like to keep a little optimism for that.
It was scary, before RE4.
I'm looking forward to the rerelease/port/remake/whatever it is of Code Veronica, though. :)
Ah ok cheers.
I think that it'll be good but I hope they don't keep it like that. I mean sure it'll be fun but I'd prefer a return to the original style a bit more.
I do admit that for its time the origonal RE was wicked with a decent storyline.
@Jenne, I think that RE4 was worthy of being the best horror game of 2005 with all its innovation and still keeping the fans happy. Just my opinion though.
A lot of people share your opinion. :) I just prefer the old games. I thought the script was really corny (even by Resident Evil standards) and the only part that actually scared me was when you had to play as Ashley because you had no weapons...Actually, that's another thing that bothered me. She always got in the way, and I'd end up shooting her and getting a game over.
I'm not going to bash anyone for liking it. :) It just wasn't my thing.
Cool Beans :) All in all I hope Operation Racoon City will be an alright installment to the franchise.
RE4 was a good action game, it isn't a RE game really.
I'm pretty sure Racoon City will be a good installment. It just would be nice to return to the old school survival horror. With the exception of maybe Dead Space there doesn't really seem to any popular survival horrors any more. The originals actually had me scared.
There was Siren: New Translation a few years ago. And Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (susprisingly, that was an incredible game)...And Fatal Frame 4, which never made it over here for some reason. People don't really seem interested in survival horror anymore. Kind of sad since that's my favorite genre.
I think they will brink back the goofy feeling and bring back the foggy streets from the first games. I am very happy for this game even though i hate the Umbrelle corporation.
I just hope i can die in a boss fight against Leon while playing as some Umbrella dude.
I recently played resident evil 2 again, so i am ready for this game. It seems cool
Maybe you're right then. The market for survival horror is disappaearing. Never really heard of those games, not gonna lie.
