Best Ending Ever

Got beef with Developers,

For the last three years I've been noticing game endings declining rapidly. While Activision has been kicking out Call of Duty's year after year the story's have been getting worse and ultimately have bad endings. But it's not just Call of Duty or FPS's, it covers the entire spectrum: even Bathesda for example. Being an RPG the Fallout series is heavily dependable upon Story and I was frankly disappointed and aggravated by the ending of Fallout: New Vegas. I won't say anything due to spoilers but if you've completed it you'll understand.

So I was wondering, what is the best video game ending of all time? And it's a though one. I was considering Grand Theft Auto IV but the ending isn't that original. Sure the storyline is bulletproof and exhilarating yet the ending was nothing special; for Rockstar. For me it has to be BioShock. I was never a huge fan of the game but I love a good twist and the ending was pretty damn good. But this was 2007, and there second instalment's story and ending was shadowed compared to the first game.

I would like to hear your responces.

I forgot about ME2. I probably would agree with you but the ending aggravates me. I've tried to get 'No One Left Behind' twice now and I've lost Jack twice - annoying as hell! I'm going for my third run now on insanity and this is going to be my final run; I'm half way through now without John's guide, yet.

I would say Persona 4 is up there, Mr Marks. After the long long lead-up (as long as you get the true ending), it's completely gratifying.

Also, for saving everyone, it's pretty easy. Get all loyalties, use completely tech guys when you need to make decisions involving tech, same with biotics, and you'll pull through. At least, I did, but hopefully it's not just my own personal glitch.

There's a lot of endings that I like:

Braid has an ending that can only happen in a video game

Metal Gear Solid 4 has a very good final fight that really makes a MGS fan jizz in his pants.

I've never played Braid but I know John and Dan swear by it, apparently there's also a twist that tops Bioshock.

I'm going to have to disagree with the ME2 ending being "great". I think it makes for a good finale for the second installment, but I'm hoping for something more conclusive than "mission accomplished, oh wait, it's not" for ME3.

For me, one of the best game endings this year has been Portal 2.

Braid

Yakuza 3

If you've played them I shouldn't even have to go in to any detail about them.

When I say ME2 I mean the ending couple of seconds that I cannot easily divulge without giving a huge spoiler.

As for other games I remembered, Heavenly Sword had an amazing ending.

I know what's the worst ending ever.

Witcher 2.

Unless there's a choice path that ends in a good one. Hopefully there's DLC/Expansions.

I think the original Portal has a great ending. I just like Hoopy the Hoop. Party Escort Bot was cool too.

Oh my god, I loved it, that was the first game to come in my mind.

Also, being a Metal Gear fan, any MGS has a nice ending, with the phone calls and all.

Resident Evil 3 was cool too.

For me, nothing in this generation has been remarkable, I miss that feeling of completing a good game and being kinda happy that you beat the game, but kinda sad because that awesome experience was over. Nowadays the endings have been like meh...

Most games now a days don't have endings, they simply lead to the next game in the series; hence why I wouldn't consider Mass Effect 2 having an "ending." Halo 3 had a good ending in my opinion, although I'm sure some people would disagree especially with the fact that you didn't actually "finish the fight."

Depending on how Gears of War 3 and Mass Effect 3 finish their stories, we could possibly have a contender for Best Ending EVAR.

Yeah, Sequelitus is probably the biggest hinderance to story in gaming these days. I don't have a problem with sequels, it's just that writers are lazy and don't seem to put much effort or faith into tying up a game's story well enough that it leaves players satisfied, but leaving some plotlines left open for a sequel to appear in the future.

It's not hard to make a decent ending without a character saying "We've stopped the bad guys for now, but they are still out there waiting to strike again!".

@Sangyerians

The Ending of Witcher 2 depends on your many choices. So there are "good" and "bad" endings, although it's more different shades of grey instead of black and white.

Mafia. The ending sequenze always gives me the chills.

Assassin's creed has always had nice twists in all of the games' endings (your master is templar, talking to god, and killing Anya)

Actually, I'm kinda pumped for Revelations.

i would say Halo Reach got a nice ''Ending'' Since the character you play at the time do die kinda like in Red Dead Redemption.

Otherwise i would say Legacy of Kain had a Perfect ending for the series....and i do hope they remake Soul Reaver in HD or something.

And just for the heck of it...Fear 2 o_-''

If you played it you know why!

I think we should also add the Half-Life endings, since they have still been keeping the series suspensful even to this day.

I would say that The Legend of Dragoon had a good ending. To bad that they did not make a second one.

So far, it has been the only end to a video game that actually evoked some emotions from me.

Recently games have been impressing me with their stories and subsequent endings.

Catherine - I have gotten only 1 of the possible 8 endings, but the end-game story was fantastic.

Bastion - Cool twists and choices

Braid - Again, twist ending for the win.

inFAMOUS 2 - The good ending actually caused me to feel real legitimate sadness.

If a game has a great story, usually the ending will not disappointing .

I love me some Knights of the Old Republic, those endings were pretty good. Although Kites of the Old Republic would be pretty good too.

I would have to say that any games that has multiple endings because of your actions that you did in the game are always pretty good

Portal 1 & 2 and Red Dead Redemption have good endings. Portal for being pure awesome, and Red Dead Redemption for being intense.

Arkham City's Ending was exciting with a huge twist I never expected a game to have!  They did a great job keeping that a secret IMO.

L.A. Noire had an unexpected but great, somber ending.

Mass Effect 2's ending left you with your jaw dropped

Portal 2's was great as well

it was some how pridictable...
(SPOILER ALERT)
as soon as you saw that human reaper being made near the end you must have known it was going to be the final boss.
im not saying its a terible game, ive played it 20+ times and will happily play it again, but ive never been exited about it or thought it was a good ending
