I stumbled upon an interesting article on IGN today:

I have to agree with the article. A lot of games have generic bald space marines with generic bald space marine personalities. It's kind of a shame, because when a protagonist has an unique personality, it can really be a good asset to the game.

Your link is broken and I hate IGN too much to bother finding it myself, but regardless, it seems logical that space MARINES are bald since a requirement of all soldiers is that you are clean shaven and have a buzz cut. Yeah, it's boring to see, but it make sense.

Article void, move along, nothing to see here.

Dumb article, and really kind of pointless. I'll grant that perhaps the model is a tad overused, but the writer offers very little evidence apart from labelling everyone with a stereotype with a loose framework. Also, including Commander Shepard at the end invalidates his whole argument, because the point of standard male Shepard is that he is a bald space marine, but he is all personality because social interaction is a major focus in the games.

This is why I cannot stand anything IGN does anymore. Maybe I'm just becoming old and jaded already.

Way to point out that character design in most western games is bland, one-dimensional crap. Once again, IGN journalism knows no bounds when it comes to the obvious.
