If you're interested in using spreadsheets to quickly add LOTS of achievements to the site, read on.

Also, Barkenator wrote up his own tutorial on How to Bulk Import Achievements.

Thanks GTAComplete for the above video tutorial as well.

Few rules

  • Only submit spreadsheets that include ALL achievements for a game
  • Please don't submit achievement spreadsheets if the Game Page and Achievements List are not already on the site.

Formatting the spreadsheet

OK, now the nuts and bolts of how this works. First, take a look at a quick sample spreadsheet I put together for Halo: Reach Achievements

https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AsiwxyTcNybwdG51Sjlnb3p5YTd2enBtX1RFQ1g1MlE&hl=en&authkey=CPW-hbwE

There are 5 columns: Achievement Name, Achievement Description, Achievement Value, Game Name, and Achievement Icon. All these fields should be fairly self explanatory.

Achievement Icons are OPTIONAL though. The weird filename for that column are the filenames you get when saving achievement icons from Xbox.com. This column represents the filename of the image.

Getting the Spreadsheet to me

In Google Docs, you can simply Share the spreadsheet with me. Click Share in the top right corner, then click Change on the "Private - Only the people listed below can access" line, then click  "Anyone with the link" and Save.
At the top of the Sharing settings window will now be a link that you can post on the forums.

In OpenOffice Calc: File -> Save As, then change Save as Type to Text CSV (it's 5th from the bottom). Now upload this file to http://www.hotfile.com/ or any other free file hosting website and post a link so I can download the CSV.

Achievement Icons

If you added Achievement Icon data to the spreadsheets, you have to send me those files as well.

.zip or .rar all those files and upload them to http://www.hotfile.com/ and post a link to that as well.

Things to note

  • The column names must be spelled EXACTLY what you see on the
  • Game Name must match the game EXACTLY. This means any punctuation (semicolons, apostrophes, etc.). Easiest way to avoid problems is to copy/paste the game name from the site.
  • Achievement Icons are optional. If you skip them in the spreadsheet, you can still update those pages through the site later.
  • Please don't submit achievement spreadsheets if the Game Page and Achievements List are not already on the site.

Ask as many questions as possible. I'm sure these instructions aren't 100% clear, so I'll be updating this page frequently.

If I want to place an achievement picture, can it be the actual image from a site (with URL) or does it have to be a .zip or .rar file?

To include images with the spreadsheet, add only the filename for the image, not the URL. Then, .zip all the images together, and I will upload them to the site.

Ok, I'm using Google Docs and after I'm done creating an achievement spreadsheet for a game, how do I go about sharing the information with Beer_Baron? Do I send the spreadsheet as an attachment in an e-mail, or do I copy the link to somewhere in the forums? I'm new to using Google Documents, and I want to make sure I get this right so any step-by-step instructions would be greatly appreciated.

The easiest solution for me would be to just post a link here in the forums.

Sorry for taking forever to add your MAG trophies...they will be added shortly. As of right now only achievements can be added to the site (an obvious oversight on my part), so as soon as I finish making Trophy Lists available I'll get your spreadsheet added.

"Please don't submit achievement spreadsheets if the Game Page and Achievements List are not already on the site"

The achievements list and spreadsheets are different? Should we click "add achievements list" on the bottom of the Game Page before we submit the spreadsheet?

This may be answering itself idk.

I'm working on the achievement list for The Saboteur. The game isn't even on the site so I had to add it, http://wikigameguides.com/The_Saboteur, my problem is that when I tried to enter the developer, Pandemic Studios, it kept giving me an error that it can't find it. Also, I'm confused on the whole achievement icon deal. So do I just go and save every icon, put the name of the file in the spreedsheet, and then upload all of the icons together as one on hotfile? Just making sure.

They weren't added to the site yet, so I just added them and updated the Saboteur page.

Yup, that's exactly right.

I can't access the Saboteur file. You shared the other 2 fine but I can't access that one.

On 1943, the first Game Name was OK but for some reason a comma was added to the rest of the names. And you put .jpeg for the filenames instead of .jpg

For Harm's Way, you forgot the apostrophe. Names have to match 100%.

All easily fixable, but those small typos completely screw up the importing process.

I'll post Harm's Way as soon as Hotfile lets me download the next set of images.

Do you want me to reupload it? I fixed all of the other errors including the jpgs, commas (when I copied it, it must have done it itself) and the apostrphes.

You shouldn't need to reupload it, just change the Sharing settings on the document so that anybody can view it.

I'm working on getting DLC added to the site today, so I'm going to hold off on adding your achievements. I want to add the ability to group achievements by the DLC they are a part of.

Are you planning on doing something like this?

I was planning to do it the way TrueAchievements does it...ALL the achievements on 1 page, with the DLC achievements grouped togther.

http://www.trueachievements.com/Grand-Theft-Auto-IV-xbox-360.htm

But having separate top level links for each achievement list (like you mocked up) could work too. Thoughts?

The TrueAchievements way looks really well layed out; rather professional. However, my mock-up shows the achievements easily categorized instead of the user/viewer having to scroll down a page to find the achievements.

Either solution would work: It is just a question of, which is more user-friendly?

I also made a tutorial on how to bulk-import achievements to the website that could you post on the site for those who are having difficulty, if you want:

Nice vid, I added it to the top post.

The fact that most sites don't have pages specifically for DLC Achievement Lists means that WGG could easily get top rank on those searches. And when new DLC gets released, there's a nice spike in "[DLC Title] Achievements" searches

http://goo.gl/wLiN1

which is more user-friendly?

All Achievements on 1 List

  • Pro: Less clutter on game navigation
  • Con: Games with lots of DLC will have HUGE pages which could be difficult to navigate (Halo 3 w/ 79 Achievements)

Multiple Lists

  • Pro: Much faster to navigate to DLC achievements
  • Pro: Avoids potential confusion by keeping the main game and DLC achievements completely separate
  • Con: Will require some serious clean up of achievement lists that have DLC achievements already added

Looks like all signs are pointing towards multiple lists. Great suggestion. Thanks for making me think that through more.

The Demons Souls trophy icons are HUGE and are kinda fucking up the list display. Normally when an icon is uploaded via the browser, they get automatically resized. But when done via bulk, they sure don't. Time to get to work.
