Jetpack Joyride is a side-scrolling action video game created by Halfbrick Studios and currently available for the iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad, BlackBerry PlayBook, BlackBerry 10, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and Android devices, and as a Facebook and Windows 8 app. It is a sequel to Monster Dash, and features the same protagonist, Barry Steakfries, who the player controls as he steals a jet pack from a top-secret laboratory.
The game was initially named Machine Gun Jetpack during development. It was released on the App Store on September 1, 2011. Subsequent upgrades included add-ons such as different jetpacks, utilities and gadgets to assist the player, which can be purchased using coins collected during the game. The most recent update provided support for the Retina Display. It was launched on Facebook as a beta version in May 2012 as a free-to-play online game and was released for Android devices, initially on the Amazon Appstore, on August 19, 2012 and later on Google Play on September 28, 2012. In November 2012, Beatshapers published the game on PlayStation Portable, and in December 2012, Big Ant Studios published the game for free on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.
The game has received several accolades from various iOS game critics and received many awards for its easy, one-touch controls and continuous gameplay.
