The M16 appears in Black Ops multiplayer as the default Assault Rifle.
The M16 is fully automatic in the campaign. It is the starting weapon in Operation 40 where it is equipped with an ACOG scope and M203, as well as being the starting weapon in "S.O.G." where it is equipped with a Masterkey. It can be found throughout "S.O.G." with different attachments. An M16 can also be found in "Crash Site" off the bodies of dead teammates. Strangely the M16 in this mission has no firing or reload sound (most likely a glitch). Overall, the M16 has low recoil, a high rate of fire, and medium damage
Outclassed by the G11 in almost every way, the M16 is much more scarce than in previous CoD games. It has recieved more recoil compared to its Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2 editions, but is still capable of killing the enemy in one burst if all three bullets hit the target.
A fairly unknown discrepancy with the M16 is that if used with a ACOG scope, the recoil will be reduced significantly, making the gun much more competitive.
Due to the lack of Stopping Power in Black Ops, the M16's effectiveness has decreased greatly. Without the damage boost, the weapon requires all three bullets in the burst to hit the target within close range and at least 2 bursts at maximum range.
