Borderlands is a first person shooter/RPG developed by Gearbox. Players take the role of one of four classes, with the aim of exploration and completing quests. The main attraction is the "87 bajillion guns" available through the gun generation system, which can produce almost an infinite array of weapons.
Weapons come in all manner of types, with different rarities, effects and attachments. They can be found by killing enemies throughout the world, opening up special chests, buying them from various vending machines, or occasionally by rummaging through odd things, such as piles of skag vomit or inside mailboxes. Typically, the weapon's usefulness is affected by its level and rarity, which are (in order of rarity) white, green, blue, purple, orange, and teal. The types of weapons are:
These differ in regards to manufacturer, accuracy, damage, clip size, rate of fire, critical damage, scopes, elemental effects (incendiary, electrical, corrosive and explosive) and the general look and sound of the gun. Along the same lines are shields and grenade mods.
