The next few months are going to be some big ones in terms of games. Every year this is the time period when all the big and great games are released. So many games are released that only a few come out on top and many get overshadowed by the big budget AAA titles. Here are my predictions for the most successful games of this holiday season in terms of sales. These are my predictions for the sales until the end of the year not lifetime sales. I used official press reports and data from vgchartz.com to determine these estimates.
Modern Warfare 3 (PS3, 360, PC) Release: Nov. 8
Estimate sales 20 million copies
Call of Duty Black Ops sold 20 million across all platforms for the entire holiday season but, this year it has Battlefield 3 in its way so I don't expect it to break BO sales for the holiday but, will probably beat Black Ops previous first week sales record due to its higher number of preorders.
Battlefield 3 (PS3, 360, PC) Release: Oct. 25 NA
Estimate 10 million copies
There is no way it will beat Modern Warfare 3 but, it is favored for PS3 owners over MW3 and will have a $100 million marketing campaign. It already has 1.25 million preorders and looks promising. This one I'm personally excited for and hope it delivers on the promises of superior gameplay over MW3.
Assassins Creed: Revelations (PS3, 360, PC) Release: Nov 15
Estimate 6 million copies
Both predecessors Assassins Creed 2 and Assassins Creed Brotherhood sold around 6 million each around the holiday season. I have not heard too much about this game probably because it looks a lot like the past two games and is probably going to be overshadowed by the long list of big games coming out.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (PS3, 360, PC) Release: Nov. 11
Estimate 3 million copies
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was successful in garnering great reviews, a great fan base and good sales. I've been hearing much about this game and how insanely large the games' world is going to be. I have a feeling it's going to shock people with its 150 dungeons and 42 square kilometer play area. Plus all three versions of the game will be released on the same day worldwide, unlike Oblivion.
Gears of War 3 (360) Release: Sept. 20
Estimate 4 million copies
It already has 1.5 million preorders in U.S. alone and is the only big Xbox exclusive for the rest of the year. I'm sure its fanbase has been waiting anxiosly to play this and won't hesitate to buy it this holiday.
