The most recent SOCOM was far from stellar. I played the multiplayer beta but can't say I enjoyed it. Mass Effect 3's multiplayer garnered some fair praise though.

I enjoyed uncharted 2 and 3's MP, for what it's worth. Before that it was gears 1 and gears 2.

I definitely warmed up to this beta. (Just preordered it today) When it works and you have a team that talks, it's pretty fun. The suppression mechanic is done very well and gun customization gets deep. It's like a more tactical battlefield.

I find it hard to get excited about multiplayer games that aren't completely skill-based like TF2, Tribes Ascend (everyone get it, tis free) and so on. I burned out on the whole persistent leveling thing 3 years ago. Games with a depth of gameplay always keep me coming back more than games that offer you the chance to unlock a breadth of options.

the only 3rd person mulitplayer i enjoyed were RDR and GTAIV

This is a fantastic game. Beta is glitchy because it's... well... a beta, but past that the gameplay is great. Get your guys to higher levels, learn the game more, focus on objectives not kills, and play as a team. Then you will enjoy it much more.
